ABOUT JOYI UGANDA

Joy Initiatives Uganda (JOYI), is a women-led local NGO legally registered with the National NGO Board to operate countrywide. The organization was established in 2008, with an original name Joint Efforts for Youth Uganda as a CBO operating in Mpigi District.

JOYI was started with an aim of improving lives of children, youth and women.

JOYI’s formation came after her founders witnessed and experienced the suffering of the girl child and women in their community due to poverty, gender inequalities and ignorance.

JOYI is governed by a five-member Board of Directors (BOD) comprised of 4 females and 1 male, who are charged with the overall direction and oversight of the organization operations as well as policy making role.

CORE VALUES

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

To improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene among vulnerable population at household and institutional level
To improve access to quality HIV/AIDS/TB and SRH services among the vulnerable population
To improve access to quality education and vocational skilling among vulnerable and disadvantaged population
To improve the living conditions of vulnerable children, youth and women
To reduce gender-based violence and SRHRs abuse and violence against women and girls

Key programmes

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: JOYI concentrates her efforts towards achieving improved access to safe water, basic sanitation and proper hygiene at household, community and institutional level (schools and health units).
Health: Health is another thematic area where JOYI implements interventions. Here the focus is on HIV/AIDS and TB as well as sexual reproductive health and rights. Much of the work goes on ensuring adequate care, prevention and treatment.
Education: JOYI’s focus in education is mainly aimed at skilling OVC, adolescent girls and young women; research on children’s attainment in literacy and numerous as well as advocacy for safe learning environment for children.
Economic Empowerment: In this area, JOYI seeks to improve conditions of its beneficiaries specifically women and youths through training, skilling and livelihood support.
Gender Based Violence: In Mpigi and Gomba districts, despite the increased awareness about the gender based violence, many more women are still faced with this challenge
